Admiral Cheng Ho's Footprint Famous Chinese Admiral Cheng Ho huge footprint is
believe found at a temple in Batu Maung, a fishing village three km
from Bayan Lepas International Airport in Penang. Admiral Cheng Ho,
the Chinese sailor who head an armada and sailed to Tanah Melayu in
the 15th century. He was hardly perceivably be more than seven feet
(2.0 metres) tall and the size of the footprint is at least a size
20. The villagers claimed that it is ancient, as old as 1,000
years, but fishing was introduced by the Malaysian Fisheries
Development Board a decade ago. Batu Maung is the small temple on a rocky promontory
that houses the "sacred" footprint of Cheng Ho.He set foot on
Penang Island during one of his sea voyages. Admiral Cheng Ho
sailed on the South Seas seven times and built a "Silk Route On The
Seas" between China and the Southeast Asian nations.
Now, the temple houses a statue of Admiral Cheng Ho,
and on a lower ground is a well-protected footprint adorned by a
signboard that reads : "The Early 15th Century admiral Cheng Ho's
Footprint Site". Those who make offeings, may get their wish
fulfilled. Pork is strictly prohibited at the area because it is
believe that Admiral Cheng Ho was a Muslim convert. With the existence of the footprint of Admiral Cheng
Ho and the increase number of visitors to the temple has raised
hopes of local residents that the site , someday would be declared
a heritage conservation site by the authorities.
