Tropical Village Mini-World Theme Park

miniv2 From Johor Bahru, drive along the old trunk road to Ayer Hitam for about one and a half hours, you will see a 12.8-hectare scenic wonder park, surrounded by verdant foliage. There are two towering 12 metre traditional kuda kepang, the tallest in the country. The entry fees will cost only RM6 for adults and RM3 for children, with the option of taking one's car or motorcycle on this stimulating sojourn for an additional RM6 and RM3 respectively.

Inside the park, you'll venture a picturesque three-acre azure lake bordered by lush greenery, paddle boats and intricate figurines, and with a striking red bridge running across its crystal waters. Visitors can embark on an aqua journey around the lake in the 20 available two-seater paddle boats for RM15 per boat, for a half-an hour spin during weekdays and 20 minutes during weekends.

Next to the lake is a brightly coloured playground, with swings and see-saws sculpted in the form of fruits such as pears, durians, watermelons, mangosteens and other tropical fruits; varied animal forms also dot this section. The playground also consists of toy train, pony ride, magic mirrors chamber and a haunted house that is sure to give kids a thrilling chill. These amusement attractions are priced at RM2 for adults and RM1 for children.

miniv Looming over the horizon are models of what look like familiar sights. Upon looking closer, a 8.8-hectare kaleidoscopic miniature world, perched on a hillock, manifests itself. 30 famous landmarks of the world that leaves the adult travel-enthusiast spellbound. It is like a geography encyclopaedia that has come to life on the Tropical Village turf. There are from the Pyramids and Sphinx o Egypt, Taj Mahal of India, Eiffel Tower of Paris and Olmer. Head of Mexico, to the Great Wall of China, Atomium of Belgium, Towers of Kuwait, Leaning Tower of Pisa and the US' Statue of Liberty. Local tourist milestones are showcased too, including Malacca's A'Famosa as well as endemic Malaysian items such as wayang kulit, rebana, gasing, tanjak, kris and wau bulan. This wonderful world trip in the space of a day, it's worth only RM6. Visitors are seen posing next to these picture-perfect sites, to bring back happy memories.

This RM5 million park was unveiled in 1993 to provide holiday-seekers with something exclusive and diverse. Daily visitors were about 100 during weekdays and 600 during weekends, while over 1,500 during public holidays. About 75 per cent of the visitors are from Johor, five per cent from Singapore, and those from other States making up the remaining 20 per cent.

miniv3 The mini-world replicas were crafted out of cement over a two year period at a cost of over RM2 million by skilled Chinese and Indonesian craftsmen. Some RM20,000 is spent every month for the upkeep of the park. About RM50,000 is spent annually on promoting this place via media advertisements and distribution of leaflets and brochures.

What were put in Tropical Village are a bucolic, natural charm are its orchid and bougainvillea nurseries, together with a fish pond and a farm featuring some 40 species of tropical flowers, fruits and vegetables. Dormitory facilities are also available, priced at between RM20 to RM25 for schoolchildren and RM30 for adults, with a minimum booking of 20 persons required. An air-conditioned conference hall with a seating capacity of 120, plus a cafe serving local delights as well as a Chinese restaurant to make Tropical Village an ideal choice, whether for a family outing or a corporate symposium.
