Bak Kut Teh
"Bak Kut" means pork ribs and "teh" means Chinese Tea. Chinese
believes that drinking tea helps to neutralize cooking oil in the
pork ribs soup and digest this nutritious food. This dish is often
served as breakfast or late-night snack. Pork ribs is cooked for
hours until it becomes soft, and the brownish soup has a unique
flavour. Vegetables, Chinese mushrooms and "You Zha Kuay" (fried
dough) are dipped in this soup which is served with white
rice.
Bak Kut Teh can be also served with fresh
chopped garlic which goes well with thick dark soya sauce and red
slice chilli. The price varies depending on the ingredients you
choose. Some hawkers offer noodles in this soup, which you might
find too expensive for a hawker's dish.
