Nature and Adventure
Kek Lok Si Temple
Located at Air Itam, it is reputed to be the most beautiful and the largest Buddhist complex in South East Asia. It is Interesting to note that it is seven-storey pagoda standing at 30m tall, is a mixture of Chinese, Thai and Burmese architecture and craftsmanship. The actogonal base is typically Chinese, the middle tiers Thai and the spiral dome Burmese. Open daily from morning to late evening. Admission is free. Opening hours : Early morning to late evening.
Khoo Kongsi Temple
Located at Lebuh Cannon, the Leong San Tong (Dragon Hall) of the Khoo Kongsi is the most picturesque temple in Penang. The Kongsi or clan-temple is a magnificient building with intricate carving on its wall, spread-eagled roof, massive columns, carved ceiling, bas-reliefs, friezes and oputent halls created by master craftmen from China. The beams are made from the finest wood and is richly ornamented. Opening hours are from 9 am to 5 pm Mondays to Fridays and 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. Permission to enter must be obtained from the Kongsi Office. Opening hours Mondays to Fridays : 9.00am - 5.00pm Saturdays : 9.00am - 1.00pm
Komtar Building
The most Conspicuous landmark of urban Penang has a central tower that is 65 storeys or 232 metres high. The tower houses all major government offices, commercial offices, department stores, shops and restaurants. Komtar also contains theatres, squash court and a geodesic dome which serves as a multi-purpose hall, while the 55th floor is the Tower Tourist Centre (TTC), a commercialised observation deck, offer a panoramic view of the city and on clear days, also of Gunung Jerai in Kedah. Surrounding the tower are commercial complexes.
Orchid Garden
The two hectares park at Bukit Jambul includes the Orchid and Hibiscus Farm and Reptile Farm. Visitors to the garden will enjoy the spectacular collection of a wide variety of hibiscus, orchid and tropical flowers near a cascading waterfall. Others are the deer park, an amamental Japanese pond, a cactus garden, a tea kiosk, a pottery corner and several plant sale areas.
Nagore Shrine
Constructed in the early 1880's, the shrine is a memorial to the Caliph, Syed Shahul Hamid. Faithful devotees may be seen visiting the shrine to seek faVORs on Thursdays.
Nattukkotai Temple
The temple is dedicated to the deity, Bala Subramaniam, and features prominently during the annual Thaipusam festival when thousands of devotees throng its premises for the various rites and ceremonies. Opening hours : early morning to late evening permission to enter must be obtained from temple officials.
