Botanic Gardens
Tucked away in a secluded corner of the university of malaysia's
campus in lembah pantai is the university of malaya's Botanic
Gardens also known rimba ilmu (forest of knowledge). It encompasses
40 hectares, sprawled over undulaling terrain traversed by bubbling
streams. The garden, set up by the university department of botany
for purposes of research, education and conservation, houses More
than 1,5000 species of plants native to Malaysia. The impressive
collection includes wild fruit trees, ginger, orchids, citrus tree,
pandanus and other medicinal plants.

Butterfly Park
Within the gardens of Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, lies atop a scenic
hilltop is the Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden where over 800 species of
exotic Malaysian orchids are to be found. At weekends this garden
is transformed into lively orchid bazaar.
Also within walking distance from the orchid garden is the Bird
Park. Some of the world's most exotic species of our fine feathered
friends grace the beautiful landscaped area, designed to bear a
close likeness to nature with tree, flowering shrubs and miniature
waterfalls. |

Carcosa Seri
Negara
Another distinctive lankmark dominating the Kuala Lumpur skyline is
the Carcosa Seri Negara, perched on a hilltop overlooking the lake
gardens. These palatial colonial mansions once seperate entitles -
the carcosa being the residence of the british governor.
When malaya achieved independence, it was occupied by a
successionof british high commissioners until it was formally
returned to the malaysian government. The seri negara once served
as a guest house for visiting foreign dignitaries. After undergoing
extensive renovations, designed to transform them into exclusive
hotels for the very rich and famous, the Carcosa Seri Negara today
continues to maintain its tradition of gracious british hospitality
and quiet dignity. |

Central Square
Next to Central Market is Central Square which houses a cineplex,
antique and souvenir shops, fast food outlets and restaurants. The
complex is an extension of the development concept embodying the
Central Market project and involved the rehabilitation of a row of
old prewar shophouses. |

Temple
The temple was built in 1906 and is a typical Chinese temple with
symmetrical pavillions and open courtyards situated in Jalan
Petaling, the temple features exotics Shek Wan pottery crawling"
style. |
