Nature and Adventures
ststad The Stadthuys
Built in 1650 as the official residence of Dutch Governors and their officers, the edifice is a fine example of Dutch architecture. Preserved in its original structure and form, it now houses the Historic Museum and Ethnography Museum. On display daily are fine traditional bridal costumes and relics from Malacca's glorious past.
tranque Tranquerah Mosque
Architecturally, this mosque is very unique. Instead of minarets, a pagoda has been built in its place. The mosque itself is somewhat pyramid-shaped intead of demo-shaped as in Moorish type mosques. Here then is evidence that Islam has had a place in Melaka More than 600 years. Within the grounds of this mosque lies the tomb of Sultan Hussain of Johor who signed the cessation of Singapore with Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819.
ttejamau Tun Teja's Mausoleum
The daughter of Sri Amar Di Raja Pahang convinced by Hang Tuah to marry Sultan Mahmud Shah. Died a queen in Merlimau, about 24km from Malacca Town, while retreating with members of Malacca royal family from Portuguese attack in 1511.
villasen Villa Sentosa
The house, built during the first quarter of the century in the style fashionable during the era, has been converted by its owner, Tuan Hj. Hashim bin Dato Demang Hj. Abdul Ghan, into a private museum. Located in Kampong Morten, which is the only Malay village in the heart of Malacca city, the house has the history taht goes back to the British Land Reform Act 1920. Visitors can view intriguing collection of costumes, Malay embroidery, furniture, muskets and an array of Interesting relics. As for curator, the owner would be glad to play the role from whom visitors can ask additional information.
