Queen Victoria's
Fountain
This English marble fountain is a quaint intrusion in the Dutch
Square. Commemorating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, it was
erected in 1901 by the citizens of Malacca in contrast, a memorial
honouring a Chinese philanthropist stands beside it. The Malacca
Clock Tower was built in 1886 by Tan Jiak Kim, grandson of Tan Kim
Seng whose public deeds included a bridge and cemetary. The
original English clock which recorded time for 96 years was
replaced by a Japanese version in 1982. |
