Artiquarium

Artiquarium at medan tuanku abdul rahman, once a mansion. This old building has been lovingly restored and now houses a private art gallery and showroom for antiques from all over asia. The gracious ambience of the interior makes a perfect setting for a fine collection of paintings and asian "object d'art".

Asean Sculpture Garden

Just below the National Monument is the Asean Sculpture Garden where a collection of prize-winning sculptures by some of the finest artists in the asean region are dispalyed within a landscaped garden.

Asian Art Museum

University of malaya. Tel : 03-757 1066/1set up in 1973 the Asian Art Museum displays scrulptures, collections of textiles originating from various asian countries. Bank Negara Money Museum, Central Bank of Malaysia

Jalan Dato' Onn. Tel : 03-291 7461/290 7575Housed within the Central Bank Building, the Bank Negara Money Museum serves as a repository for the country's numismatic heritage. An important aik of the museum is to disseminate knowledge pertaining to the evolution of Malaysian currency through its exhibitions and publications. Coins, currency notes, tokens and other artifacts are displayed at the museum.Open : 9am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday. 9am - 12pm, Saturday. Closed : Sunday and Public Holidays. Admission : Free

Biomedical Museum

Jalan Pahang. Tel : 03-298 6033. The Biomedical Museum of the institute of medical research which was established in 1983 records and displays medical research materials undertaken by the institude since its inception in 1900. Materials concerning public health problems in the country, current research activities and those pertaining to teaching, training and research are on display. Collections in the museum include Malaysian fauna of medical significance such as mammals, reptiles, insects and parasites.Open : 7.30am - 4.45pm, Monday to Friday 7.30am - 1.15pm, Saturday. Bird Park

Within walking distance from the orchid garden. Some of the world's More exotic species of our fine feathered friends grace the beautifully landscaped area, designed to bear a close likeness to nature with trees, flowering shrubs and miniature waterfalls. Admission : Adults RM3.00 Children RM1.00

Menara Kuala Lumpur

Situated atop bukit nanas, 94 m above sea-level, the Menara Kuala Lumpur promises to be a highly visible and prestigious landmark in the heart of the city. Its total height of 421m ranks the imposing structure as the tallest tower in asia and the third tallest in the world.the structure consists of five basic sections i.e the foundation base, touristic building, the tower shaft, the tower head and antenna mast. The foundation base comprises three basement levels providing space for incoming telephone cables, a store for maintenance, a cafetaria for staff and a water reservoir for fire fighting and domestic supply. Two levels of the touristic building are linked with the 146m pedestrian mall which has a reflecting pool in the centre. The Space at the ground level houses mainly the switch-room, kitchen for the revolving restaurant and administration office for Menara Kuala Lumpur sdn. Bhd. The main public area will be at the upper ground level. At this level it provides nine (9) shoplots, a fastfood restaurant, a mini-theatre and an amphitheatre, surau (prayer room), public toilets and office space for mklsb. The upper ground level is also accessible through the escalator from the ground level. Opening hours: Monday-Friday:10am-10pm. Merdeka Square

Here is where the scene of the annual celebration of Independence, marks a significant moment in the country's history. Formerly the venue for cricket, hockey, tennis and rugby matches the field fronting the Selangor Club has been returfed and transformed into attractive laid out Square, to be commemmorate the country's independence. At the southern end of the square is the world's tallest flagpore(100 metres), majestically flying the national flag. On the turf, a flat, round black marble plaque marks the mednight on August 30,1957 and the Malayan Flag hoisted up for the first time to the resounding cries of "Merdeka".

MISC Museum

Wisma misc, 2 jalan conlay. Tel : 03-242 8088set up by the malaysian international shipping corporation in 1922, the MISC Museum is the first of its kind in malaysia. Located at the ground floor of wisma misc in jalan conlay, the museum gives an insight into misc's development as the national shipping line since its incorporation in 1968. The museum is divided into 12 sections, each dealing with a particular range of related subjects such as shipbuilding, ships of the world,communications at sea, history of ships in malaysia, maritime laws and career at sea.open : 8.30am - 4.30pm, monday - friday. 8.30am - 12.30pm, saturday. National Art Gallery

Located on a 5.67 acres site at jalan temerloh, the National Art Gallery is flanked by the national theatre and the national library. Built with aesthetics and functionality in mind, the art gallery creates a space for the preservation, development, exploration and experimentation of the various permanent and temporary exhibitions. Amenities available include a creative centre, a sculpture garden, a photography and graphics studio, an auditorium, a library, a restoration space, abook shop and cafe. Open 10am to 6pm daily. National History Museum

29, Jalan Raja. Tel : 03-294 4590/294 4591/294 5492A former commercial bank dating back to 1910, the National History Museum enables visitors to discover the wealth of Malaysia's historical heritage through its permanent exhibition of artifacts and materials. The museum carries out museological activities such as research, collecting, recording and publication in regard to the nation's treasures.Exhibits include a 520 million-year-old metamorphic sandstones, a 40,000-year-old homo sapien skulls and an eight-sided gold coin dating back to the 15th century. Open : 9am - 6pm daily. Admission : Free

National Monument

Across the road from the lake gardens is the National Monument, constructed in 1966 in honour of the nation's fallen heroes. Designed by felix de weldon of washington's iwo jima memorial fame, the 15.54 metres high bronze statuary depicts seven men from the malayan security forces symbolising the seven qualities of leadership. A moat, filled with fountains and ornamental water-lilies surround the entire structure.
