Acheen Street
Mosque
Acheen Street Mosque, lebuh acheen also known as masjid melayu, the
mosque was built on land donated by syed sheriff tengru syed
hussain aidid who came from acheh in sumatera. The 1820 mosque
features a small window halfway up the mineral, said to have
originally been a hole made by cannonball fired during the 1867
triad riots. Permission to enter need to be sought from mosque
officials. |

Balik Pulau
The hills of Balik Pulau abound with clove and nutmeg trees which
bear fruit in november/january and july. Or saVOR the durian, a
seasonal fruit which is the luscious king of fruits. A visit to the
spice garden is a must if you're Interested in the spices which
brought the early europeans here. |

Balik Pulau kampung
houses
The traditional malay kampung houses of Balik Pulau feature
elaborate carvings. Traditional roofs, long windows and verandahs
the design of these houses are also functional - stilts or posts
supporting the house above the ground allows for free air
circulation and hence make it cooler. |

Batu Maung Fishing
Village
Batu Maung is a small fishing village at the south-eastern tip of
the island, which owes its fame to the beach-front shrine dedicated
to Admiral Cheng Ho, the famous Chinese admiral who featured
prominently in the history of the Malacca Sultanate. The huge
footprint in the vicinity of the shrine is said to be that of the
Admiral. |

Botanic Gardens
Penang Botanic Gardens, is unique, being the only one of its kind
in malaysia. In here are various flora unknown to many. Many
Penangites and visitors regard this place More as a popular
recreation spot where one comes to have some fun feeding the
monkeys. The sound of waterfalls gushing from its source in the
hills and the chatter of monkeys in the background bring ones
closer to the nature.

Butterfly Farm
Located at Teluk Bahang, the farm is noted as the world's first
tropical live butterfly exhibition and houses over 100 species of
butterflies and local insects in their natural habitat. There are
about 4,000 to 5,000 live butterflies at any one time. The farm
also serves as a display and breeding are complete with a souvenir
shop and information centre. The presence of a lily pond,
artificial waterfalls and a rock garden further enhance the beauty
of the farm.
