Cheah Kongsi
A splendid double-storey Chinese Temple with an open balcony and
sweeping roof, decorated with British lionheads, standing on the
edge of a small but well-kept lawn. Straight ahead is the
association office building, with a charming heritage
interior. |

Cheong Fatt Tze
Mansion
A stately Chinese-type dwelling house representing 18th and 19th
century Chinese architecture built in the 1880's by Cheong Fatt
Tze, a Guangdong businessman. The interior features beautiful
bedrooms, libraries, ceremonial halls, heavy wooden
doors,courtyards and gardens. The mansion houses a rare porcelain
collection, sculptures, carvings, tapestries, embroideries and
antiques. |

China Town
China Town on the island stretches from weld quay to lebuh stewart,
lebuh muntri, lebuh campbell and lebuh king. China Town is so large
and well-preserved that you will sense and feel the lifestyle of
chinese immigrant settlers who came here in the 1800s. Visitors
will be intrigued by the many clanhouses, chophouses and temples
found along these streets, which reflect the heritage left behind.
Stepping into these streets will certainly take you back in
time. |

City Hall, Esplanade
Built in the 1880s, this stately colonial building is a fine
example of British palladian architecture featuring magnificent
Corinthian columns and huge windows. It was once the seat of local
government. It now serves as a venue for special exhibitions.
In front of the building is the field or the padang. A sea-wall
runs along its sea-front. Here is one popular place where locals
like to frequent to enjoy the sea breeze, arrays of snacks, to fish
or just to enjoy nature's offerings as the sun sets. This place is
none other than the famous Penang Esplanade.

Clock Tower
Towering 60 feet high, the Clock Tower was presented to Penang by
local millionaire cheah chen eok in 1897 to commemorate the diamond
jubilee of queen victoria. |

Dharmikarama Burmese
Temple
A pair of elephants guard the entrance to this Burmese temple.
Within the pagoda grounds is a Boddhi tree and a wishing pond. It
is the scene of many festivities during the water festival in
April.Admission is free. |
