Tetawak

Tetawak is a type of gong which plays the role of the colotomic instrument in the Malay musical tradition. It is used to accompany traditional theater performances such as Mak Yong, Wayang Kulit Kelantan, Menora and Main Petri. Tetawak is usually used in pairs, mother, or ibu tetawak, and child, or anak tetawak. During the performance context, tetawak ibu and tetawak anak are hung together on a stand.
In order to stabilize the set up, two sticks known as kayu mangambang are attached. The mallets are usually made from wood, layered with cloth and tied with strings.
